A team specialized in migrations to the cloud

The team managing the migration must be trained and experienced in these processes

The team managing the migration must be trained and experienced in these processes

The ASM Web Services cloud migration process team is fully trained, with hands-on experience and a thorough knowledge of multiple platforms, such as Azure, Microsoft’s public pay-per-use cloud.

Azure is one of the leading players in the market thanks to the benefits it offers. Banco Santander announced in April 2019 their choice of Microsoft as their preferred strategic cloud service provider to drive the institution’s digital transformation. ASM Web Services systems technician David Solé is a certified Azure Administrator Associate. This certification has provided him with technical know-how in managing subscriptions, creating and scaling different types of virtual machines, implementing storage solutions and configuring virtual networks, different solutions regarding backups and sharing of data. He has also acquired new skills in areas such as connections between on-premise servers and cloud resources, network traffic management, implementation of Azure Active Directory, as well as the monitoring of all the elements that form part of these solutions, in either technical or administrative aspects.

One of the ASMWS team’s technical consultants, Joaquín Jiménez has also extended his know-how in cloud computing, obtaining five official Cloudinary certifications. Cloudinary is a US based SaaS technology provider for multinationals such as Sony, Trivago or Virgin. They offer cloud-based video and image management services, enabling users to upload, store, manage, manipulate and deliver images and videos for websites and applications.

Intelligent migration to the cloud, and in good company

The crisis triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic has hastened digital transformation processes in many businesses. The context today has boosted generalized consumption of the IT as a Service model, particularly for the cloud.

The factors driving businesses to stake on cloud computing are manifold: it offers great flexibility, greater agility and new opportunities for innovation, along with flexible computing power. However, implementing a data migration process to the cloud may cause some trepidation for most companies, which is absolutely normal. An overly quick migration without a strategy, without the right provider and without the advice of a specialized partner can cause serious difficulties for their businesses.

Office 365 makes teleworking easier for companies

Teleworking has been the solution that companies have found to not stop productive activity and ensure the health of their equipment while the health crisis caused by Covid-19 lasts. In this context, Microsoft’s Office 365 platform stands as a very complete tool that facilitates the effective development of teleworking for companies, since effective interaction and collaboration between employees are two of its main characteristics. To help companies continue to operate from home, from ASM Web Services we can facilitate the adoption of Microsoft Office 365, a cloud-based service that brings together widely known tools such as Word, Excel, Power Point or Outlook, and other essential for the remote team management such as Teams or Yammer.

Lower costs, more resources and instant communication

What other benefits does Teams offer?

Microsoft Teams allows remote conferencing even with people who don’t use Office. In addition, users have a large amount of cloud storage with One Drive, being able to establish personal access folders that other team members cannot see. Teams also enables integrated real-time content creation with Office Online applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, and the ability to choose from more than 140 applications such as Adobe, Evernote, and Trello.

The new “Akeneo PIM 4.0” is more agile and scalable.

Akeneo has just launched the new version of its Product Information Management (PIM) system, the Akeneo PIM 4.0. The French company has taken advantage of the Akeneo PIM Summit 2020, the annual meeting of customers and partners held in Paris on February 5 and 6, to present it.
With this evolution, which comes to replace version 3.2, the performance of the solution increases substantially, and allows customers to benefit from faster imports and exports. Time to market is also shortened and scalability is increased to expand product catalogs. These are the main novelties that the Akeneo PIM 4.0 presents.

El nuevo Akeneo PIM 4.0 es más ágil y escalable

Improve the product experience

One of the new functionalities, and one of the most relevant, of Akeneo PIM 4.0 is the Asset Manager. This central dashboard enables business users to organize and enrich all kinds of product-related digital assets. They will be able to visually manage and transform digital assets to deliver robust, channel-specific product experiences, and link assets to product catalogs through improved API (application programming interface) level integration with Digital Asset (DAM) systems. Management) existing.

Quality Product Information

The Data Quality Insights functionality is another of the novelties that the Akeneo PIM incorporates. Assess the accuracy and quality of product data, automatically flag misspellings and incorrect formatting, and display data quality ratings on a color-coded dashboard. Users get automated suggestions to improve product data, quickly correct errors, and ensure accuracy and consistency of product data Introducing the new Akeneo PIM 4.0

Franklin Insights suggests

Franklin Insights, the library of technical product information developed by Akeneo, takes another leap forward. It integrates a new attribute mapping feature that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically suggest product attributes for product catalogs. Marketers will be able to review and accept Franklin’s suggestions with a single click, ensuring an optimized path to product data enrichment.

A more simplified administration

The last of the news that we want to explain to you from the ASM Web Services team at Akeneo PIM 4.0 is the new connections module. It simplifies connection management by using efficient API-based integration to allow users to easily establish and manage third-party connectors from a single pane of glass. This new feature includes a dashboard to easily monitor data flows in and out of the PIM, enabling effortless security management between applications.

The binomial Akeneo PIM and Magento (part 2)

In addition to this project in the antipodes, 2019 has also left us relevant local projects. Casmar, a distributor of global solutions for security and surveillance, for example, is one of them. On the one hand, we have been working on the implementation of Akeneo PIM for the management of its product catalog. At the same time, we have created its new online store (focused on B2B) with Magento 2, which is fed by all the product information that is being generated in the PIM, in order to improve the user experience. The online store is connected to its ERP, which is Navision, to manage orders automatically and maintain stocks in all markets in which they are present (Spain, Portugal, Colombia and Chile) and their warehouses.

Another project that combines Akeneo PIM and Magento technologies has been carried out by our team for Brico Depôt, a French chain of DIY, garden and home renovation products. The first phase consisted of setting up its online store (aimed at B2B), based on the Click & Collect model, also known as online shopping and store collection. The second phase has already started and we will carry it out throughout 2020.

Proyecto de ASMWS para Brico Depôt

We have also used the Magento solution last year to carry out the evolutions of the eCommerce of the Torres, and the agri-food company Disfruta & Verdura.

Waiting for the Akeneo PIM 4.0

We have talked about the PIM of Akeneo, the French company of which ASM Web Services is a silver partner in Spain, we would like to recall a relevant fact related to this solution: the launch of version 3.2 on the market.

The main novelties that the new version brought were an improvement in the reference entities, Franklin Insights and work processes, as well as greater benefits in the performance of e-commerce and in the API. Looking ahead to next February, coinciding with the Akeneo PIM Summit 2020, the annual meeting of customers and partners that we will attend, the French company has announced that it will present in society a new version of its PIM, the Akeneo 4.0.

An even more prepared team

One of the best ways we have to evolve as a company is through training and expanding the knowledge of the team. For this reason, four ASM Web Services professionals obtained official certifications in 2019. José Antonio Lópezfunctional & technical consultant, functional & technical consultant, has achieved the Akeneo Certified Developer. For his part, Rodrigo País Garay, eCommerce functional consultant, obtained the Magento 2 Solution Specialist certification.Ismael Felipa, FrontEnd web developer, obtained the M2 Front End Developer certification for Magento 2. And finally Dani PalacioseCommerce solutions developer,eCommerce solutions developer, became the first Spanish developer to obtain the certification for M2 JavaScript Developer from Magento.

ASMWS presence in León is consolidated

We end this summary of the year by looking even further back. If we jump back in time to 2018, we ended that year with the announcement of our new offices in León, located in the Center for Technology-Based Companies (CEBT), very close to the popular MUSAC, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Castilla y León.

After 365 days of flight, the project headed by Jesús Martínez has been fully consolidated and has allowed us to explore new business avenues in that Spanish region.

In 2019 email migrates to the Microsoft Office 365 ‘cloud’ (part 1)

2019 has been a hectic year for ASM Web Services and loaded with various projects, but if there is a technology that we have worked on that has taken the cake, that has been the cloud. The year that we have just said goodbye has undoubtedly been the definitive push for cloud solutions.
The ASM Web Services team has migrated around 5,000 mailboxes to Microsoft Office 365 throughout 2019. We have developed projects of this type for the companies Damm (beer group), Stada (laboratory) and the Institute of Religious of San José de Girona (health sector). This figure will increase in the year that we open because in the second half of 2019 we started the migration projects of Werfen (hospital solutions) and General Optica (optical products).

Last months of existence of IBM Smart Cloud

Some of the mail forwarding projects to the cloud we have carried out are a consequence of the announcement made in August 2019 by HCL Technologies. The Indian multinational will stop the development of IBM SmartCloud Notes in July 2020, a complete mail service in the cloud that has millions of users worldwide.

Faced with this new scenario, from the ASM Web Services team we believe that the most appropriate alternative for current IBM SmartCloud Notes users to keep their mail operational is to migrate to another cloud platform. One of the most powerful on the market is Microsoft Office 365. ASMWS has experience in this type of migration and has a team of four people certified by Binary Tree to carry out this kind of project.

Migration does not interrupt activity

When making mail migrations to the cloud, and to ensure that the customer can continue with their activity during the process, our team has developed a coexistence strategy. What does this mean? The old company email coexists for a certain time with the new email in the cloud while users are gradually migrating. During this period of coexistence, we designed a specific configuration with Binary Tree —ASMWS is a certified company for its use— to prevent information from being lost and the user to appreciate that this process is underway. This same solution with Binary Tree has been used in many of the largest messaging migrations in the world (Exxon Mobil, Novartis, Bank of New York).

Working in the antipodes with Goldcar

The year that we just said goodbye has also served for several members of our team to go to work to the other side of the world: Australia and New Zealand.

Our team assumed the coordination, together with local partners, of the validation and technological implementation of the services of the Goldcar company for its landing in Australia. They were integrated for a few weeks in the corporate expansion team of the multinational car rental company. Keep reading the second part of our summary of the year-

The constantly evolving ASM Web Services team

We finished the month of November with a double! In this case, with one formative. One of the best ways we have to evolve as a company is through training and expanding the knowledge of the team. For this reason, two professionals from ASM Web Services have just obtained official certifications.
José Antonio López, functional & technical consultant at ASM Web Services, has achieved the Akeneo Certified Developer. This certification is focused on developers who can customize an Akeneo PIM project to adapt it to the needs and business strategies of each client in an optimal way.
A certified developer will be able to successfully implement Akeneo projects, the product information management system. This means that he will be able to provide his clients with the best recommendations on using native features and implementing custom features.

One more expert in Magento 2

In addition, Rodrigo País Garay, eCommerce functional consultant of ASMWS, has achieved the Magento 2 Solution Specialist certification. This title accredits Rodrigo as an expert user of the Magento 2 eCommerce platform. It is designed for those profiles that can efficiently align the commercial objectives of companies with the functionalities of Magento 2, optimize the use of native functions and avoid unnecessary customizations .
Rodrigo joins Ismael Felipa and Dani Palacios, who throughout 2019 have also obtained the M2 Front End Developer certificates for Magento 2 and M2 JavaScript Developer for Magento, respectively.

Magento is the world’s leading platform

Magento is the most widely used open source (opensource) eCommerce platform for creating online stores. It allows carrying out all kinds of projects related to Internet sales thanks to its modular, very flexible and scalable system. Provides tools to drive traffic, sales, and customer engagement.

Ismael Felipa achieves the Magento M2 Front End Developer certification

Ismael Felipa, a member of the ASM Web Services team, has obtained the M2 Frontend Developer certification for Magento 2. This certification tests knowledge about modifying and developing the public part of the platform.

M2 Front End Developer de Magento 2

To pass the test and get this certification, Frontend developers have to know JS from its base, handle libraries of the jQuery type and the new frameworks of the AngularJS type. They also have to know how to optimize the workflow using tools like Gulp, among many other skills.
Ismael Felipa is the second member of the ASMWS team to achieve the official Magento 2 certification.

In addition to him, Dani Palacios achieved another certificate other than Magento: he became the first developer in Spain in 2019 to obtain the M2 title Magento JavaScript Developer.

Magento is the world’s leading platform

Magento is the most widely used open source eCommerce platform for the creation of online stores. It allows carrying out all kinds of projects related to Internet sales thanks to its modular, very flexible and scalable system. Provides tools to drive traffic, sales, and customer engagement.

What to do before IBM SmartCloud Notes closes in 2020

Last August the news broke: HCL Technologies announced that in July 2020 it was going to stop the development of IBM SmartCloud Notes, a complete mail service in the cloud that has millions of users worldwide. The announcement came a few weeks after the purchase by the Indian multinational HCL Technologies of certain IBM products, related to security software, digital experience, collaboration and electronic commerce. The multinational has justified the decision because the current architecture of IBM SmartCloud Notes is highly complex and expensive to evolve. For this reason they have chosen to deploy a new cloud with similar functionalities, which does not yet have a launch date.

HCL detiene el desarrollo de IBM SmartCloud Notes

The ASM Web Services solution for IBM SmartCloud Notes users

Given this new scenario, from the ASM Web Services team we believe that current users of IBM SmartCloud Notes have three alternatives:

  1. Migrate to another cloud platform. One of the most powerful on the market is Microsoft Office 365, a SaaS (software as a service) solution that is purchased from a cloud service provider using a pay-per-use model. ASMWS has experience in this type of migration and has a team of four people certified by Binary Tree (manufacturer of the Domino to Office 365 migration solution) to carry out these kinds of projects.
  2. Migrate from IBM SmartCloud Notes to Verse on-premise. Although it is a counter-current solution, it is an option for immediate execution for companies that see the deadline very close. Whether it is on-premise or locally refers to the type of installation that is made of the software solution. In this option, the migration is carried out towards the server and the infrastructure (ICT) of the company, so the company itself or its hosting provider will be responsible for its maintenance.
  3. The third option is similar to the previous one, it is an on-premise alternative but with a difference. In this case, HCL provides a list of providers called HCL Cloud Hosting Partners, who offer cloud services to host the solution. With this proposal, the maintenance of the solution will be the responsibility of the HCL Cloud Hosting Partners.
  4. Regardless of the target platform, the transition from IBM SmartCloud Notes must be gradual and well planned, especially in large organizations.

Dani Palacios is certified for Magento M2 JavaScript Developer

The developer Dani Palacios has become the first and only Spanish, this 2019, to obtain the Magento M2 JavaScript Developer certification.
The strength of this certification is that it allows developers to choose the best technology to carry out a specific job. It focuses on the Javascript programming language part of Magento and allows modifying the JS code of the page in any section of that platform.

Certificación Magento

Certification benefits

Developers who have obtained this certification can edit and create JS, Jquery / Magento UI elements and widgets. Also make modifications in important parts such as the checkout and in other sections of the page that have some type of knockout code.

Only developers who have experience of at least one year working with Magento JavaScript are eligible for this certification. Magento is an eCommerce platform with free code (opensource) -very popular and used all over the world- which allows you to carry out all kinds of projects related to Internet sales, thanks to its modular, very flexible and scalable system.

Akeneo PIM helps you generate prescribers

Traditionally, the B2B customer has been considered to have different needs than the B2C customers. I think the statement is partially true. If you allow me, I will explain it to you.
One point that has been worked on a lot in the field of B2C is prescription. Brands take many actions to get their customers to become prescribers, but this strategy is less frequent in the B2B field.

El PIM de Akeneo te ayuda a generar prescriptores

What is a prescriber?

A prescriber is the person who influences other potential buyers by commenting on a product, brand or service. We all know that there is no better recommendation than someone we consider to be an authority on a topic or someone with whom we share problems.

What does a PIM have to do with the prescription?

Prescribers are not just satisfied customers who recommend products that have done well for them and destroy those that have not. A prescriber is also generated by creating expectations about the products that are to come and generating interest in the rest of the products that you may not even have tried. This is where product information becomes critical.

How am I going to prescribe your products if I don’t know them?

To offer an optimal service and provide the potential prescriber with the best information from the product catalog, I need corporate tools that facilitate centralizing, maintaining and enriching this information. That is where the PIM makes its appearance, allowing the different areas of a company to collaborate to enrich the information and distribute it to the different channels, providing a personalized experience adjusted to each medium. It will not be the same information that I need to publish in my eShop, in a Marketplace or for my paper catalog.

At ASM Web Services we can help you implement these tools to improve processes and reduce Time To Market in the life cycle of your products. We have implemented Akeneo PIM –ASMWS is the software company’s partner in Spain– in different business environments and we have extensive experience in organizing and optimizing highly complex catalogs.

More quality information, more prescribers

To generate prescribers it is essential to provide the maximum amount of information possible about the product, variations, specific characteristics that may be of interest to a specific sector and never forget the visual aspect, adding images, demonstration videos and technical documents that can increase the interest and knowledge. Also, giving interesting and comprehensive product information shows that you care, not only about your product, but also about your customers.
It is very difficult to provide this level of richness with different spreadsheets that are distributed and versioned throughout the company, and where each one makes their transformations and additions, with the images in a shared folder and the product name limited to the 26 characters that ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) allows me.
